You hear about using resistors to drop voltage for panel gauges but put that out of your mind. Forget resistors. You give up any chance of accuracy using only a resistor. At best, resistors are accurate at one spot on the gauge and they are less and less accurate as the reading moves away from that spot. Using a resistor, the gauge needle may move around but it's not telling you what you want to know. Resistors are not the right way to go with panel gauges.
